I-77 Crash Near Davidson Sends 8 to Hospital, Traffic Backed Up
Davidson, NC – July 9, 2025 – Crash on I-77 South near Davidson around noon Wednesday. Happened near mile marker 29, on the bridge between Griffith Street and Catawba Avenue.
Both lanes going south got shut down. Traffic pushed into the toll lane. Long delays in both directions.
Not clear yet what caused it. State officials haven’t confirmed how many vehicles were involved.
Paramedics checked 12 people. Eight were taken to Atrium Health Carolinas. Injuries were minor.
Mecklenburg EMS, two ambulances, plus the MEDIC mass casualty bus were on scene.
Road stayed blocked through early afternoon. No word on when it’ll fully reopen.
Drivers told to take NC-115 or Highway 21 instead.
Highway Patrol and DOT are investigating.
