Hunter Myers Death-Obituary: Rising Star in Harness Racing Community Dies After Track Accident
The harness racing community is mourning the loss of 27-year-old Hunter Myers, a talented and promising driver who died after a devastating accident at the Hollywood Casino at the Meadows racetrack on Wednesday.
Myers, who had already won thousands of races, was competing in the 11th race of the day when a chain reaction crash involving six horses occurred. He suffered severe injuries and was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital, where he passed away on Thursday.
Colleagues and friends remembered Myers as a kind, funny, and determined individual who was a daily part of many lives at the track. Michelle Venneri, a longtime horse groomer, described the day as the “saddest” she had ever encountered at the track.
The Meadows Standardbred Owners Association released a statement paying tribute to Myers, saying he was a beloved member of the racing family. The community is coming to terms with the loss of a talented young driver who had so much to give to the world of harness racing.
