A devastating shooting incident occurred outside Our Lady of the Lake hospital in Baton Rouge on Wednesday afternoon, claiming the life of a hospital employee.
According to Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) Chief TJ Morse, the victim was shot in the parking lot while leaving work around 3:45 p.m. The shooting was described as a targeted attack, with the suspect allegedly waiting for the victim outside the hospital.
The victim was immediately taken to the hospital’s trauma unit, where she succumbed to her injuries. Chief Morse confirmed that the suspect remains at large, but investigators are working diligently to gather evidence, including witness statements and video footage.
“We’re doing our best to try to find the person who did this very soon,” Morse said.
The hospital was briefly placed on lockdown with an active shooter protocol, but the mandate was lifted before 5 p.m. Employees received text messages instructing them to seek shelter during the lockdown.
One employee, Debbie Brooks, expressed shock and concern over the incident, stating, “In all my years working in a hospital, in healthcare, never have I been involved with an active shooter situation.”
