Anaya Zachary Death-Obituary: 14-Year-Old Girl Fatally Shot at Baytown Apartment Complex Playground
A teenage boy is in custody after allegedly shooting and killing 14-year-old Anaya Zachary at a playground in an apartment complex in Baytown, Texas, on Friday afternoon.
According to Baytown police, the shooting occurred at around 4 p.m. in the 4600 block of Village Lane. Zachary was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Preliminary information suggests that Zachary and the teenage boy were involved in an altercation earlier in the day, possibly on the school bus. The boy allegedly approached Zachary at the playground and shot her multiple times.
Zachary’s godmother, Sonya Stanford, described the incident, stating that the boy had worn all black and a black mask before calling out Zachary’s name and shooting her four times.
Stanford expressed forgiveness towards the suspected shooter, a 13-year-old boy, but emphasized that the adults in his life are responsible for the tragedy.
The Baytown police have not released the suspected shooter’s name due to his juvenile status. The investigation is ongoing, and it is unclear what charges the teen faces or whether his parents will be charged.
