
Aleksandr Lanis Death-Obituary: Officer-Involved Shooting in Fenton, Missouri, Leaves One Man Dead
A 38-year-old man, identified as Aleksandr Lanis, a physician at Mercy, was fatally shot by St. Louis County police officers during an arrest attempt near Fenton, Missouri.
According to police, two officers arrived at Lanis’ residence in the 1000 block of Hawkins Bend Drive around 10 a.m. to arrest him on previous first-degree harassment charges. A verbal exchange ensued when Lanis answered the door, and he allegedly pulled out a gun, leading to a struggle.
Both officers fired their weapons, killing Lanis. A handgun was recovered at the scene. One officer suffered a non-gunshot hand injury and was treated at the scene.
The officers involved have been identified as a 30-year-old with seven years of law enforcement experience and a 22-year-old with one year of experience.
Neighbors reported hearing around 15 shots fired during the incident. Mike Guenther, a neighbor who lives two houses down, praised the officers’ actions, saying they did what they had to do to resolve the situation.
St. Louis County Police Chief Kenneth Gregory also commended the officers, stating they followed their training to keep everyone safe.
The investigation is ongoing, with no further information released at this time.
