
The South Carolina Highway Patrol reports an accident on Interstate 26 Wednesday night at approximately 10:15 p.m. claimed one life.
According to Master Trooper William Bennett, the crash occurred on the eastbound side of I-26 close to the 66-mile marker in Newberry County, close to the Jalapa Road exit.
The preliminary report released by the officials stated that a 2015 Chevrolet pickup vehicle struck a person who was also walking east on I-26
Bennett stated that the pedestrian died at the scene. The pedestrian’s identity has not been made public by the Newberry County Coroner’s Office.
No further injuries were recorded, according to Bennett, and the Chevy driver was unharmed.
Although it was unclear whether the driver was using a seat belt, the accident is still under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
