
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – 24-year-old Jeremy Labonte has been identified by the Roswell Police as the Roswell police officer who was shot and killed Friday night.
According to report, Labonte was shot and killed while attending to a “suspicious person” call at a shopping center at 1425 Market Blvd. It was gathered that Labonte was shot just four days before going on vacation.
A law enforcement officer discovered the individual suspected of committing a crime, whose identity was confirmed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) as 23-year-old Edward Espinoza, in a parking area adjacent to the ACE Pickleball Club.
As per the police, Espinoza fired several shots at Labonte. Labonte was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Roswell Mayor Kurt Wilson said, “Today the Roswell community is gravely affected and saddened by the loss of this outstanding young man who dedicated his life to protecting us.”
In order to assist in providing meals for the department during this time of mourning, the city has established a meal delivery network for those willing to offer their help.
The incident has led to a flood of condolences from officials and various law enforcement agencies.
