
Police Respond to Early Morning Shooting Along Newark-East Orange Border
A shooting incident occurred early Saturday morning along the border of Newark’s West Ward, prompting a swift response from police officers from both Newark and East Orange. The incident was detected by a ShotSpotter device, which alerted authorities to gunfire near Maybaum and Whittlesey Streets.
Upon arrival, officers from both departments secured the area, with East Orange police taking the lead in the investigation. Shell casings were found on the East Orange side of the border, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation, and authorities have not yet released any further details.
The incident is currently being investigated by East Orange police, with assistance from Newark police.
