
Fatal Multi-Vehicle Accident on West State Road 46
On Saturday afternoon in Monroe County, Indiana, a fatal accident occured when a wrong-way driver collided head-on with another vehicle on West State Road 46 at the intersection of Hunter Valley Road.
According to officials, a 2007 Mercury Milan was traveling eastbound when it crossed the grass median and entered the westbound lanes, colliding with a 2025 Buick Enclave. A 2025 Mercedes-Benz traveling alongside the Buick Enclave was also involved, with the driver sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.
The wrong-way driver, who was driving the Mercury Milan, sustained injuries and was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries. The driver of the Buick Enclave suffered several broken bones and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office shut down the roadway to allow their crash reconstruction team to investigate the scene. Officials are still working to determine the cause of the accident.
