
Authorities have reported a fatal car accident that claimed the life of one woman on Monday morning at approximately 10:32 a.m. in a vehicle that left the freeway on Interstate 680 near Martinez and crashed, according to CHP.
California Highway Patrol stated that a white Dodge Caravan was traveling northbound on the Interstate 680 just before the Marina Vista off-ramp when for reason yet unknown, veered off and crashed
According to the CHP, the woman, a passenger in the vehicle, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver suffered major injuries and was transported to a hospital.
The CHP reported that neither of the vehicle’s occupants appeared to be wearing seatbelts.
As of 11:50 a.m., the three right-hand lanes of I-680 remained closed, with no estimated time for reopening, a CHP spokesperson confirmed.
For those looking to take side roads to reach Martinez, Marina Vista was still open.
The incident is still under investigation.
