A gruesome killing occurred in Akparata village, Effium autonomous community, Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi State, where one person, Godwin Odah, was beheaded and had other body parts severed by suspected Ezza warriors. This incident happened just a week after Governor Francis Nwifuru granted amnesty to 158 detainees arrested during the four-year-old intracommunual war that broke out in Effium in 2021.
The President-General of Effium Town Union, Dr. Agena James, confirmed the killing and notified Governor Nwifuru. Dr. James expressed his disappointment, stating that despite government efforts to restore peace, the perpetrators must be arrested and brought to justice. He also emphasized that the Ezza-Effium people are truncating the peace process again.
Godwin Odah, was killed at the back of his compound in Akparata village. The brutal manner of the killing has sparked widespread condemnation.
Governor Nwifuru had previously stated that both stakeholders of Effium and Ezza Effium had signed an undertaking to prevent a relapse into war in the community.
This incident raises concerns about the fragile peace in the region and the need for continued efforts to promote reconciliation and justice.
This is really sad..why killing each other?
