A tragic incident occurred at Roy J. Smith Middle School in Killeen, Texas, on Monday, resulting in the death of a 14-year-old girl. According to the Killeen Police Department, the victim was stabbed by another 14-year-old female student during school hours.
The incident began as a dispute between the two students, which escalated into violence. The victim was rushed to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in critical condition but succumbed to her injuries at 12:21 p.m.
The suspect, also 14 years old, was taken into custody by a Killeen ISD police officer at the scene. Due to the ages of those involved, their names will not be released.
The school was placed on lockdown following the incident, and students were taken to a reunification site at a local church. Classes at the school will resume on March 24, after the district’s spring break.
Counselors and support services will be available for students and staff upon their return. In the meantime, counselors will be available at the Jackson Professional Learning Center for any student needing immediate support.
