School Bus Crash on Garden State Parkway Leaves 14-Year-Old Boy in Critical Condition
A devastating school bus crash on the Garden State Parkway in Bergen County, New Jersey, has left a 14-year-old boy fighting for his life. The accident occurred on Monday night at around 7:30 p.m. on the northbound side of the parkway, just north of Exit 171 in Montvale.
According to New Jersey State Police, the bus veered off the road and flipped over in a single-vehicle accident. The bus was seen on its side, facing the wrong direction on the highway, with skid marks visible on a nearby embankment.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the crash. The students on the bus, from a rabbinical school in Lakewood, were headed to New York to attend a post-wedding celebration.
Emergency crews from the Woodcliff Lake Fire Department and volunteers from the Montvale Fire Department responded to the scene and were able to lift the bus and rescue the trapped 14-year-old boy. He was transported to The Valley Hospital in Paramus, where he remains in critical condition.
In addition to the critically injured boy, 13 of the 29 students on the bus and the 44-year-old driver suffered minor injuries. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic and disturbing, with one witness saying, “I saw a head injury, like a lot of blood and stuff. It just did not look good.”
Governor Phil Murphy was briefed on the situation, and the crash drew a large response from first responders. The incident is currently underĀ investigation.
