Man Injured in Shooting Outside Chicago’s O’Hare Airport
Chicago, IL – A shooting occurred outside Chicago’s O’Hare Airport near Terminal 2, leaving a 25-year-old man injured.
According to Chicago Police, the incident began as a fight between multiple individuals in the arrival area of Terminal 2 around 1 a.m. on March 12, 2025.
The victim, who was shot twice in the lower body, was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge and is expected to recover.
Witnesses described the chaotic scene, with one retired police officer, James Van Schaick, stating, “I heard what sounded like rapid fire, like automatic fire… People just scattered in both directions.”
Anthony Riccio, a former Chicago Police first deputy superintendent, noted that the shooting was targeted and highlighted the vulnerability of unsecured areas like the one where the incident occurred.
O’Hare Airport, one of the busiest in the world, saw around 44 million passenger departures in 2024. Despite the rare occurrence of such incidents, the shooting has raised concerns about airport security.
Terminal 2, which serves several airlines, including JetBlue and United, was temporarily closed following the incident. Police took one person in for questioning, but no charges have been filed as of Wednesday afternoon.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
