Lafayette Police Close Case Involving 73-Year-Old Man’s Bizarre Behavior
Lafayette, IN – The Lafayette Police Department has released a debriefing video on YouTube, shedding light on a peculiar case involving 73-year-old Louis McGlothlin.
McGlothlin, who appeared to be struggling with declining mental health, had become fixated on the city of Lafayette, believing its residents were controlling him. In a video clip, McGlothlin can be heard making cryptic statements about the city.
“The cancer that has been allowed to develop in the city of Lafayette,” McGlothlin said. “You have to bust these people up. They want your energy. They want to know how you did it.”
The police investigation revealed that McGlothlin, a U.S. Navy veteran, had grown up in Lafayette but had settled in Lincoln, Nebraska, with his wife. His only connection to the area was a familiarity with the intersection of Earl and South streets.
The case was closed after police determined that McGlothlin had targeted a local laundromat in the familiar area, as it was an open business.
The Lafayette Police Department’s release of the debriefing video provides a glimpse into the complex and often mysterious nature of the case.
