Edgar Riches Death-Obituary: British Charity Worker Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident
A devastating hit-and-run accident occurred in Nairobi, Kenya, on Thursday, claiming the life of 79-year-old British charity worker Edgar Riches.
Riches, a resident of Poole in Dorset, was visiting Kenya to see his sister and nephew when the incident took place. According to police, he was struck by a support vehicle traveling at the rear of President William Ruto’s official convoy on a main road in the capital.
The driver, who has been detained and released on bail, failed to stop after the incident. Police spokesman Michael Muchiri confirmed that the president’s detail had passed by the time the accident occurred.
A post-mortem examination revealed that Riches suffered multiple trauma, including severe injuries to the chest and head. He was known for his charitable work, regularly raising funds for projects in Kenya.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many questioning the size and speed of the presidential motorcade. This is not the first time a president’s or deputy president’s motorcade has been involved in a fatal accident.
The UK High Commission has acknowledged the incident and is seeking further information. The driver is expected to appear in court following an investigation.
Riches’ death has sent shockwaves through the community, with many remembering him as a kind and generous individual who frequently provided aid to those in need.
