
A devastating multi-vehicle crash brought traffic to a standstill on westbound US 60 in Mesa, Arizona, Tuesday morning.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS), the crash involved seven vehicles, including a cement mixer truck and a pickup truck, near Greenfield Road at approximately 6:55 a.m.
DPS officials reported that the cement mixer truck rear-ended the pickup truck, which was slowed or stopped due to traffic congestion. The impact caused the pickup truck to catch fire.
In a heroic act, a Chandler Police Department motorcycle officer broke the truck’s window, and an off-duty firefighter helped rescue the driver before the fire engulfed the vehicle.
The pickup truck’s driver sustained moderate injuries and was rushed to a hospital. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
The incident caused significant disruptions to traffic, with a portion of westbound US 60 shut down. Motorists were advised to expect delays and seek alternative routes.
