Tukwila, Wash. – A fatal collision occurred on northbound I-5 in Tukwila on Friday morning, resulting in significant lane closures.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., emergency responders arrived at the scene, near the Interurban Avenue exit, to find a serious-injury crash. According to Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson, the accident began on State Route 599, where a vehicle crashed on the Interurban overpass.
The car then went off the overpass and landed on the northbound lanes of I-5, blocking several lanes. Tragically, one person died at the scene, while another suffered serious injuries. Four others sustained minor injuries.
In a surprising twist, Trooper Johnson announced on social media that the individual ejected from the vehicle on the overpass was taken into custody for felony hit-and-run. The suspect fled the scene but was apprehended minutes later and will be booked into jail after medical clearance.
All northbound I-5 lanes reopened around 3:30 p.m. following the incident.
