Fatal Shooting, Carjacking, and High-Speed Chase Rock Albuquerque Neighborhood
An ugly series of events unfolded early yesterday morning in Albuquerque, New Mexico, leaving one person dead and another critically injured. The incident began with a carjacking near Montgomery Park, which escalated into a fatal shooting and a high-speed chase.
According to the Albuquerque Police Department (APD), the suspect crashed his Subaru into Montgomery Park around 3:30 AM and attempted to steal a brightly colored car occupied by three individuals, including the brother and mother of popular TikToker TophiaChu.
The situation turned violent when the suspect fatally shot TophiaChu’s brother and critically injured her mother, who was in the backseat. The suspect then fled in the stolen car, leading authorities on a high-speed chase.
The chase ended when the suspect crashed into a Jeep near the Marla NE area. A security guard intervened, shooting the suspect and bringing the chaotic situation to an end.
The APD is investigating the original shooting at Montgomery Park as a homicide. The security guard’s actions are being reviewed to determine whether the use of force was justified.
