A 33-year-old Trenton man, Bruno Laboy Santiago, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Wilmer Eliu Vidal Romero.
The incident occurred on March 13, after a motor vehicle collision between the two individuals, which allegedly led to Santiago intentionally shooting Romero.
According to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, Santiago is also facing a second-degree weapons offense for unlawful possession of a firearm. He was taken into custody on Wednesday by a deputy from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Department in Louisiana during a traffic stop and is currently being held at the St. Tammany Parish Jail in Covington, Louisiana, awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
If convicted, Santiago faces severe penalties, including 30 years to life in state prison and a fine of up to $200,000. The weapons offense could lead to an additional five to ten years in prison, with a fine of up to $150,000. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
