SACRAMENTO – A car crash occurred on Interstate 5 in North Sacramento on Monday afternoon, with the vehicle flipping over onto its roof on the northbound side of the freeway.
According to eyewitnesses, the car came crashing off a city street and onto the freeway at W. El Camino Avenue. Multiple lanes were closed for several hours, causing traffic to back up through Downtown Sacramento, but reopened around 3:30 p.m.
Dashcam footage captured by a driver on I-5 shows the car crashing off the overpass and onto the freeway, narrowly missing other vehicles below. “It was pretty wild,” said Kyman Jeung, whose dashcam captured the crash. “If any of us were a few seconds quicker, it really could have ended a lot worse than it did.”
The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition, according to Sacramento police. The cause of the crash is still unclear and under investigation.
