A mysterious discovery in Neptune has been clarified, as police have identified the 74-year-old man found dead in the woods behind ShopRite last week. Charles Whelan, a resident of Freehold, was identified as the individual discovered around 9 a.m. on March 5.
According to Neptune Police Chief Anthony Gualario, the police department received a report of a dead body in the wooded area at 700 Neptune Blvd. The cause of Whelan’s death remains under investigation, pending the results from the medical examiner’s office.
The police have assured the public that there is no danger to the community. The property where Whelan’s body was found is owned by Neptune Boulevard Development Group LLC.
