Chris Arsenault Death-Obituary: Fire Destroys Cat Sanctuary, Claims Life of Founder and Over 100 Cats
A devastating blaze swept through Happy Cat Sanctuary in Long Island, New York, on Tuesday morning, killing founder Chris Arsenault, 65, and more than 100 cats. The fire broke out at 7:15 a.m. at Chris’s home and sanctuary.
Chris, who had dedicated his life to rescuing cats, entered the burning building multiple times to save the animals but became trapped during his final attempt. Despite efforts by emergency responders, Chris and many of the cats were unable to be rescued.
The sanctuary, which Chris founded in 2006 after losing his son in a motorcycle accident, had become a haven for hundreds of cats. Chris had recently expanded his operations to a new facility in New York State.
The community is in shock, and many are paying tribute to Chris’s kindness and dedication to animal welfare. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
One cat, Phoenix, was rescued from the fire but sadly did not survive. The incident is a poignant reminder of the importance of kindness and support for those who help animals in need.
