
After an accident in Lancashire, traffic was backing up on the M6. Motorists driving south to Wigan are experiencing delays on Sunday morning.
It occurred after an accident on the southbound lane between junctions 30 of the M61 and 29 at Bamber Bridge. Queues exceeding a mile in length were reported by National Highways as approaching the site of the accident.
Traffic was halted for a time at the scene. Inrix reported that a vehicle breakdown in the vicinity resulted in the closure of one lane.
A spokesperson for National Highways North West wrote on X: “The #M6 southbound between J30 (#M61) and J29 (#BamberBridge), traffic has been STOPPED due to a collision. There is currently approx. 1.5 miles of congestion on approach. Please plan ahead if travelling in the area this morning.”
Further information regarding the nature of the collision is yet to be confirmed. Both incidents have been resolved now.
