Tragic Accident at US 98 and Regions Way Prompts Call to Action
DESTIN, FL – A fatal crash at the intersection of US 98 and Regions Way has reignited concerns about the safety of this notorious junction. The accident, which occurred today, claimed the life of one person.
Destin Mayor Bobby Wagner has been vocal about the dangers of this intersection for years, previously bringing it to the attention of the city council. Statistics show that there have been 60 crashes, 14 injuries, and now one fatality at this location.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has already proposed a safer design for the intersection, which would come at no cost to the city. However, a letter of support from the city is needed to move the project forward.
Mayor Wagner is urging residents to make their voices heard and is calling for support at the upcoming city council meeting on April 7th at 6 PM at the Destin Annex Building.
“We need to act now to prevent another tragedy,” Mayor Wagner said. “This is about protecting our neighbors and ensuring our community is safe.”
Residents can show their support by emailing Council@cityofdestin.com or attending the council meeting in person.
