Drag Racing Suspected in Devastating Car Crash in Dayton
Authorities have reported a car crash that severely damaged two homes on Xenia Avenue in Dayton believed to have been caused by drag racing. According to News Center 7, two cars were traveling at speeds of up to 120 miles per hour when one car bumped into the other, sending it careening into the homes.
The impact was severe, with the car crashing through the corner of one house and into a second house. A 65-year-old woman who was inside one of the homes was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. The driver of one of the cars was also taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Police believe that both drivers involved in the crash were intoxicated and neither had a valid driver’s license. The crash also caused a potential explosion hazard after the car struck a natural gas line, which firefighters had to work to shut off. Crews also had to take steps to stabilize the homes, which had load-bearing walls damaged in the crash.
Witnesses Trinity Blankenship and Josh Biggs were among the first to respond to the scene, calling 911 and trying to help those affected. “I tried to get in the house, there was no getting into the house. The front door was jammed shut,” Biggs said.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
