Houston Police Investigate Possible Connection Between Three Drive-By Shootings
A series of drive-by shootings in Houston’s Third Ward has left police investigating a possible connection between the incidents. The shootings occurred Monday night and Tuesday morning, leaving one man hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
The first shooting happened around 8:20 p.m. Monday at a convenience store on Drew and Callie Street. A man in his twenties was shot outside the store while riding a scooter. When he ran inside for help, he was shot again by a man wearing black and carrying an AR-15 rifle, according to Lt. JP Horelica.
Approximately eight hours later, at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, a home on Callie and Tuam Street, just a block from the store, was sprayed with bullets. Tenant Craig Brooks described the terrifying scene, saying he dove on top of his girlfriend, who has Alzheimer’s, to protect her.
A third shooting occurred at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at a home on Drew and Lucinda Street, also near the convenience store. A tenant, who wishes to remain anonymous, believes the home was targeted because the victim in the first shooting is his cousin. The tenant, his pregnant partner, six children, and puppy were all inside the home at the time of the shooting.
Houston Police are working to determine if the shootings are connected and are urging anyone with information to come forward. The investigation is ongoing.
