Driver dies after crash and fire on 290
HARRIS COUNTY — A person is dead after a crash Monday off U.S. 290 near the Highway 99 exit.
Officials said the driver was in a 2007 Jeep Patriot that went off the road, hit a guardrail, then wrecked. The SUV caught fire right after.

Some people nearby ran over and helped pull the driver out before the vehicle burned up.

Paramedics got there soon after but couldn’t save them. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
No word yet on what caused the crash. Harris County deputies are investigating.
