A Temple University student was arrested and charged with impersonating an ICE officer after attempting to enter a residence hall. According to Philadelphia police, two suspicious men claimed to be police and ICE agents when they approached dorm security on Saturday, but were denied access to the building.
A third individual, 22-year-old Aidan Steigelmann, arrived at the scene and spoke with the two suspects before they all left together in a Jaguar SUV. Shortly after, university police responded to a report of the same men posing as officers at an Insomnia Cookies store.
Temple University said in a statement, “The involved student is on interim suspension. Any student found responsible for this conduct will be subject to disciplinary action under the Student Conduct Code, up to and including expulsion”.
While two suspects drove off in a light-colored SUV, Steigelmann was identified, arrested, and had his vehicle towed. The investigation is ongoing, and the two other suspects remain unidentified. The suspects were wearing shirts labeled “Police” on the front and “ICE” on the back.
The Philadelphia Police Department is asking anyone with information to contact 215-686-TIPS (8477).
