Two High-Speed Chases Involving Mobile Police Officers
Mobile Police Department is investigating two separate high-speed chases involving their officers, one of which ended in a spectacular accident in Midtown Mobile, while the other resulted in a damaged patrol car.
Chase 1: Midtown Accident
A police chase through Midtown Mobile ended with a crash at the intersection of Dauphin and Catherine Streets. The driver, who was being pursued for a traffic violation, hit a white pickup truck that had the right of way. The driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Residents witnessed the crash and described the scene as chaotic. One witness, Kirsten McGuire, said she heard the police sirens and saw the crash. Another witness, Sara McCoy, said a nurse told her the driver was going over 100 mph and caused another car to swerve.
Chase 2: Tillman’s Corner to Mississippi
In a separate incident, a stolen car chase began in the Tillman’s Corner area and continued onto I-10, reaching speeds of 114 mph. The chase crossed into Mississippi, where the vehicle became stuck in mud. The driver and passenger were taken into custody.
The driver faces charges of attempting to elude police, car theft, and hitting a police car.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are reviewing ALDOT camera footage.
