Man Arrested After Shooting Incident at Indiana Library
SEYMOUR, IN – An 18-year-old man is in custody after a shooting incident at the Jackson County Public Library in Seymour, Indiana. According to Indiana State Police, the suspect, identified as Emiliano Cuevas-Bravo, allegedly walked into the library around noon on Wednesday and fired at least one shot from a long gun towards two employees.
The library director and a clerk heard the shot and took cover, while a patron tackled the gunman and held him until police arrived. Cuevas-Bravo was charged with two counts of attempted murder, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, and intimidation.
Fortunately, no one was shot, but one person was injured from shattered glass. Police said the entire incident took about two minutes, and officers quickly took Cuevas-Bravo into custody.
Authorities revealed that Cuevas-Bravo had initially planned to target a school resource officer at Seymour High School but instead went to the library. After the shooting, police detonated an unknown device inside and outside the library as a precautionary measure.
The investigation is ongoing.
That was a terrifying situation, but it’s a relief that no one was seriously hurt. It’s incredible how quickly the patron acted to stop the gunman—real bravery in the moment. I’m curious, though, what led Cuevas-Bravo to change his target from the school resource officer to the library? It seems like there’s more to the story that hasn’t been fully explained. The fact that an unknown device was found adds another layer of concern—what was it, and why was it there? It’s also unsettling to think about how quickly things escalated in just two minutes. Do you think the library’s security measures need to be reevaluated after this? I’d love to hear more about how the community is responding to this incident.
