A devastating incident has shaken the community of Irvine, California, after a 14-year-old boy died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon at a residence in the Heathergreen and Weepingwood area, where officers and emergency medical personnel responded to reports of a juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound.
Upon arrival, authorities found the injured teenager and provided immediate medical aid, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries a short time later. Investigators believe the wound was self-inflicted, but the circumstances surrounding the incident are still unclear.
According to Sgt. Karie Davies, the teenager was visiting a friend at the residence, but it is unknown if anyone was with him when the gun went off. The gun was already present in the home, and detectives are working to determine what led up to the tragic event.
The teenager, an eighth-grade student at Southlake Middle School, was described as a well-liked and popular kid, making the incident even more heartbreaking for his family and friends.
In connection with the incident, 56-year-old Douglas Yeager of Irvine was arrested on suspicion of criminal storage of a firearm and child endangerment.
