40-Year Prison Sentence for Bronx Man Convicted of Murdering Pregnant Ex-Girlfriend
A Bronx man, Justin Soriano, 44, has been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for the murder of his eight-month pregnant ex-girlfriend, Shanice Young, outside her Harlem home in September 2021. The sentencing took place in Manhattan Supreme Court, with Justice Ann Scherzer presiding over the case.
Details of the Crime
According to prosecutors, Soriano arrived at Young’s building on a motorcycle, wearing all black and latex gloves, just as her family and new boyfriend were unloading baby shower gifts from a car. Young, who was sitting in the passenger seat, stepped out of the vehicle, and Soriano, enraged, asked her “why” before shooting her three times in the face in front of her children and others.
Conviction and Sentencing
Soriano was convicted in November of murder, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, and endangering the welfare of a child. The court handed down the 40-year-to-life sentence on Thursday, bringing some closure to the tragic case.
