
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – A tragic sequence of events unfolded on Wednesday morning in Kannapolis, North Carolina, leaving two people dead and a suspect killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The incident began at approximately 8:30 a.m. at the Cabarrus County Department of Social Services parking lot, located on South Cannon Boulevard. Authorities found two victims deceased at the scene.
A Cabarrus County deputy immediately pursued the suspect, who led police on a high-speed chase. Kannapolis police officers joined the pursuit, which continued into Rowan County, where deputies from that jurisdiction also became involved.
The chase ultimately ended on Lower Palmer Road in Rockwell, about 20 miles from the initial scene, when the suspect pulled over and took his own life.
According to police, the incident appeared to be domestic in nature, and the individuals involved were known to each other. Fortunately, no employees of the Department of Social Services were injured.
The identities of the two victims and the suspect have not been released by authorities. The South Cannon Boulevard office will remain closed for the remainder of the day, but services will still be available at the Milestone Avenue office. Those in need of assistance can call 704-920-1400.
