
Minna, Niger State – A fatal road accident on the Lapai-Agaie-Bida Federal Highway has claimed the lives of 14 passengers and left six others injured.
The tragic accident occurred on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at approximately 10:59 am, involving a Toyota Hiace bus traveling from Minna to Agaie and a DAF tanker heading from Lagos to Kaduna.
Excessive Speeding and Wrongful Overtaking Blamed
According to Kumar Tsukwam, Niger State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the crash was caused by excessive speeding and wrongful overtaking. The driver of the Toyota Hiace bus attempted to overtake another vehicle at high speed, resulting in a head-on collision with the oncoming tanker.
Casualties and Emergency Response
The impact of the collision was fatal, resulting in the immediate deaths of 14 passengers, including:
– 5 females
– 1 male child
– 8 males
Six male passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the General Hospital in Lapai for emergency medical care. The injured were evacuated to the hospital, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the morgue.
