Community Holds Vigil for Victims of Young Park Shooting
A vigil is being held tonight in Las Cruces, New Mexico, to honor the lives of three individuals killed in the Young Park shooting on March 26. The “Youth Voices for Peace Vigil” will take place from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Plaza de Las Cruces, located at 100 N. Main St.
The event is hosted by several local organizations, including NM Comunidades en Acción y de Fe (CAFe), Inspirational Ministries, Holy Cross Retreat Center, and the Black Student Association at New Mexico State University. The vigil will feature speakers from youth and faith communities, with a focus on promoting unity and support rather than politics.
Christina Hernandez, a parent from Las Cruces, expressed her hopes for the vigil, saying, “I hope that this will help to bring the community together, along with giving some comfort to those directly impacted by this tragedy.” She emphasized the need for the community to come together and encourage healing, rather than resorting to more hate and violence.
Police will be present to ensure participant safety, and community resources will also be available. This event aims to provide a space for reflection, support, and healing for those affected by the tragic incident.
