Lyft Driver Convicted of DUI After Good Samaritans Intervene
A San Francisco jury has convicted Fernando Capeletti, a 44-year-old Lyft driver, of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The incident occurred on September 4, 2024, when multiple 911 callers reported a “drunk Lyft driver” in the area of 16th and Valencia Street. Witnesses stated that Capeletti was fighting with people on the sidewalk and had crashed his vehicle into a parked motorcycle.
Good Samaritans intervened, removing Capeletti’s keys from the vehicle and preventing him from driving further. When police arrived, Capeletti denied drinking alcohol and claimed his vehicle had not struck the motorcycle.
However, a chemical breath test revealed Capeletti’s Blood Alcohol Content to be 0.20%, more than 2.5 times the legal limit.
District Attorney Brooke Jenkins emphasized the severity of the offense, stating, “Driving under the influence is illegal, dangerous, and deadly.”
Assistant District Attorney Donovan Campos-Coolbaugh added, “It is unacceptable that a Lyft driver, responsible for transporting members of the San Francisco community, was driving under the influence of alcohol.”
