This evening, a crash has caused all traffic on the M56 close to Manchester Airport to be stopped. Following the incident, traffic congestion is worsening on the eastbound side of the motorway.
Traffic is being halted temporarily between Junction 3A (Princess Parkway) and Junction 4 (Wythenshawe).
Motorway cameras capture considerable traffic jams as emergency services and highway officers address the situation.
Nonetheless, traffic is starting to lighten on the M56 eastbound between Junction 3A (A5103 Princess Parkway, Baguley) and Junction 4 (Simonsway, Wythenshawe).
After the multi-vehicle accident, the involved vehicles were relocated to the hard shoulder, and recovery operations are in progress.
