
Greater Manchester, UK – A serious crash and fire on the M62 westbound carriageway at Junction 19 (Middleton Road) near Heywood has caused significant disruptions to traffic.
The incident was first reported at approximately 11:45 p.m. on Sunday, with emergency services, including the air ambulance, responding to the scene.
A closure was put in place between Junction 20 and Junction 19, but the motorway reopened between these two junctions shortly after 3:30 a.m.
However, the closure within Junction 19 remains in place as police continue to investigate the incident.
National Highways has confirmed that the M62 is now open westbound between Junction 20 (Rochdale) and Junction 19 (Heywood), but the exit and entry slip roads at Junction 19 remain closed.
Recovery operations are nearly complete, and contractors are on standby for the cleanup and repair operation, which is expected to extend into the morning peak.
