Tom Walsh Death-Obituary: Tributes Paid to “One of Life’s Gentlemen” After Fatal Accident
A Longford man, Tom Walsh, has been remembered as “one of life’s gentlemen” after losing his life in a two-vehicle crash in County Westmeath yesterday.
The incident occurred on the N55 at The Pigeons, near Ballymahon, at around 11am. Mr. Walsh, who was in his early 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other men, both in their 80s, were taken to Tullamore’s Midland Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Local Cllr Pat O’Toole paid tribute to Mr. Walsh, describing him as a “very nice, decent, and gentle guy” who was well-respected in the community.
Mr. O’Toole said, “Tom was what you would call a very obliging and down-to-earth person. He just got on with life, and he was always a man that seemed to be doing a bit of work.”
The incident has sent shockwaves through the tight-knit community of Ballymahon, with many still trying to come to terms with the loss.
Gardaí are investigating the incident and are appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who may have camera footage of the incident.
