Indian Student in Coma in US, Family Pleads for Visa Assistance
A desperate appeal has been made by the family of Nilam Shinde, an Indian student lying in a coma in a US hospital, for a visa to be with her. The 35-year-old student was critically injured in an accident in California on February 14 and has been in a coma ever since.
According to her family, Nilam suffered fractures and injuries to her chest and head after being hit by a four-wheeler. Her family only learned of the accident two days later, and the hospital has been giving them daily health updates. The hospital even sought permission to operate on her brain, highlighting the severity of her condition.
Nilam’s father, Tanaji Shinde, has been trying to obtain a visa to visit his daughter, but so far, he has been unsuccessful. The family has reached out to NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule for assistance, who has posted in support of the family and requested External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s help in obtaining a visa .
Ms. Sule described the situation as “an alarming issue” and assured the family that she would work to resolve it. She also praised the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for their helpfulness in such cases.
The family is racing against time, as Nilam’s condition remains critical. Her uncle, Sanjay Kadam, emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that they need to be with her as soon as possible.
Nilam, a Master of Science student, has been in the US for four years and is in her final year. Her family is desperately seeking assistance to be with her during this critical time.
May God see her through
