After an attack in Riverside County, Santa Ana police officers shot and killed a homicide suspect near the Newport Beach Pier on Saturday morning.
According to report, Police were called out to a home on Mesa Edge Court around 3 a.m. in Menifee after reports of gunshots.
A 38-year-old woman later identified as Storm Wolf of Temecula was found dead in the house as at the time police officers arrived.
After identifying 45-year-old Jose Velasquez as the culprit, the detectives concluded that he may have traveled to Santa Ana, which is almost 60 miles away. As a result, Menifee police officers requested assistance from the Santa Ana police. According to the agency, officers attempted to stop Velasquez after discovering him in a car on N. Freeman Street.
Around 7a.m, Santa Ana police reportedly pursued Velasquez until he reached the end of the Newport Beach Pier after he drove away.
Velasquez was shot and killed by authorities here, however it’s unclear what transpired afterward. At the dock, first responders declared him dead.
Several individuals were on the pier when the incident occurred, according to officials.
The pier has reopened after being shuttered for a short time.
The shooting is under investigation by the authorities.
