Deadly Collision on Los Angeles County Freeway
Los Angeles, CA – May 11, 2025 – A devastating collision occurred on Sunday morning on State Route 60 in the unincorporated Los Angeles County community of Hacienda Heights, resulting in at least one fatality and 32 injuries. The incident involved a tour bus carrying 63 passengers that collided with a disabled Nissan Pathfinder in the westbound lanes.
According to Officer Zachary Salazar, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the tour bus slammed into the rear of the disabled SUV, causing it to burst into flames. The driver of the Nissan, whose name has not been released, tragically died at the scene after becoming trapped in the burning vehicle.
The tour bus, driven by Sui Sheng Du, veered to the right across multiple lanes of the freeway and crashed into a raised metal and wood guardrail along the right shoulder. The CHP’s preliminary investigation suggests that the impact caused the Nissan Pathfinder to become fully engulfed in flames, trapping the occupant.

Investigation Underway
The CHP is investigating the cause of the collision, but it appears that neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor. Officer Salazar stated that the SUV’s disablement is still under investigation, and it’s unclear what led to the vehicle becoming stranded on the freeway.
The tour bus was traveling from Morongo Valley, approximately 110 miles east of Los Angeles, to Koreatown in downtown Los Angeles when the crash occurred. Images of the bus show substantial front-end damage.
