New York, NY – “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) celebrated a major milestone with “SNL 50: The Anniversary Celebration,” a three-hour special that aired live from New York. The event brought together generations of comedians, actors, and musicians who got their start on the iconic show.
83-year-old Simon, a regular presenter on SNL since its early days, appeared on the show alongside 25-year-old pop star Carpenter. Carpenter humorously noted, “I was not born then… and neither were my parents.”
The anniversary celebration marked five decades of SNL sketches, songs, and special guests that have become a staple of American pop culture. The show has launched the careers of comedy legends such as Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy, Tina Fey, and Kristen Wiig, many of whom attended the celebration.
Amy Poehler, an SNL cast member from 2001 to 2008, reflected on the show’s impact, saying, “I grew up with the show… it’s lived with me my whole life.” Adam Sandler, a cast member from 1990 to 1995, credited the original cast with paving the way for future generations.
Over the years, SNL has evolved into appointment TV, tackling topics such as politics, pop culture, and social issues. With the rise of streaming and social media, SNL sketches and host monologues continue to reach a wide audience, regularly garnering millions of views on YouTube.
