
A fatal head-on collision occurred on Illinois Route 106, approximately 5 miles west of Pittsfield, around 6:30 pm yesterday , according to Illinois State Police.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a black 2016 Chevy Silverado, driven by 72-year-old Eric Harris of Springfield, attempted to pass an orange 2010 Case Magnum Truck Tractor and collided with a silver 2014 Jeep driven by a female juvenile traveling westbound.
The impact caused the Jeep and Chevy to strike the Truck Tractor, resulting in the truck tractor overturning. Harris, the female driver of the Jeep, and a female juvenile passenger in the Jeep were airlifted to area hospitals with serious injuries. The Truck Tractor driver, Nathan Reed, was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Tragically, a 68-year-old female passenger in Harris’ truck and a female juvenile passenger in the Jeep were pronounced deceased at the scene. Harris has been cited for improper lane usage.
The incident led to the closure of Illinois Route 106 until 2 am for investigation and cleanup.
The State Police are still investigating the incident, and no further information is available at this time.
