
After a decade-long run as anchor of NBC Nightly News, Lester Holt has announced his departure from the program. The 65-year-old broadcaster shared the news in a memo to staffers on Monday, citing his desire to devote more time to Dateline NBC, which he has hosted since 2011.
Holt’s departure marks the latest in a series of high-profile exits from NBC News, including Chuck Todd and Hoda Kotb. He will continue to anchor Nightly News through the summer before transitioning to his new role at Dateline.
Tributes have poured in for Holt, with colleagues and fans praising his professionalism and dedication to journalism. Today host Savannah Guthrie shared a congratulatory message on social media, thanking Holt for his “amazing decade” at NBC Nightly News.
Holt’s replacement has yet to be announced. In his memo, he expressed his gratitude to his colleagues and viewers, saying it had been “the honor of a lifetime” to work on Nightly News
