School Bus Crash in Chicago Sends 18 to Hospital
CHICAGO, IL – A school bus carrying suburban high school students was involved in a crash with an SUV on Friday morning, sending 18 people, including 17 students, to the hospital. The incident occurred just after 7:30 a.m. near 111th and Pulaski on the city’s Southwest Side.
According to authorities, the bus was stopped at a red light when the SUV, driven by a 64-year-old man, attempted to turn right in front of the bus, resulting in a collision. The impact caused the bus to strike the SUV’s passenger side.
One student described the moment of impact, saying, “When we got to the intersection, a car came and hit her right on the side and that’s when everything happened. We got pushed.”
The injured were taken to several hospitals, including Advocate Christ Medical Center, Little Company of Mary, and Holy Cross Hospital, and are reported to be in good condition. The bus driver and another adult were also injured.
The identity of the school the bus belonged to has not been released, and citations against the SUV driver are pending. Parents picked up some students from the scene, and authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
