“People Were Screaming”: Four Dead, Several Hurt After Stolen Camaro Crashes Into Bus in San Antonio
It happened fast. Around 2 in the afternoon on July 17, a white Camaro came flying down I-35 near Leon Creek in San Antonio — and slammed straight into a bus pulling a trailer.
The car had been reported stolen earlier. Police say there were four people inside. After the crash, all four ran from the wreck. One had what looked like an assault rifle.
Two people died at the scene. That night, police confirmed two more had passed away. Eighteen others — including kids and older adults — were rushed to hospitals.
San Antonio Police Chief Bill McManus posted a warning shortly after the crash: “Major crash with fatalities. Stolen Camaro wrecked into a bus. Two dead, 18 injured. One suspect armed. Avoid the area.”
The bus was left mangled. Debris scattered across the highway. Some witnesses said it was one of the worst crashes they’d seen.
As of Thursday afternoon, the suspects still hadn’t been found. Police were still searching and asking folks nearby to stay alert.
