Woman Dies After Being Struck by Two Vehicles on Stoney Trail Highway
CALGARY, AB – A 57-year-old woman lost her life on Wednesday morning after being involved in a multi-vehicle collision on the Stoney Trail highway.
The incident occurred shortly before midnight on Tuesday when the woman’s vehicle was struck by a commercial vehicle, causing her car to spin out and ejecting her from her seat. The commercial vehicle fled the scene, leaving the woman to receive medical aid from occupants of a nearby roadway maintenance truck.
Moments later, a 2018 RAM truck driven by a 21-year-old man struck a post and cable barrier in the median, ultimately ramming the woman. The RAM then hit the rear of the roadway maintenance truck.
The Calgary Police Service (CPS) said the woman was transported to hospital but was pronounced deceased on arrival. The other drivers and passengers were not injured in the collision.
CPS has arrested a man in his 20s and recovered the vehicle they believe is responsible for the initial accident. However, police are still seeking the public’s assistance in finding a tractor-trailer unit with collision damage to the front and significant damage to the trailer.
The incident comes after several accidents in recent months, and CPS has advised Calgarians to be cautious while driving in the snow. Sgt. Colin Foster emphasized the importance of driving to the conditions and remaining at the scene if involved in an accident.
