A powerful storm system brought devastating weather to parts of Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio over the weekend, resulting in multiple fatalities and hundreds of thousands of power outages. In Kalamazoo County, Michigan, a tree struck a vehicle, killing three family members and injuring four others, with one person in critical condition.
The accident occurred in Climax Township, approximately 130 miles west of Detroit, while the area was under a severe thunderstorm warning. The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
In Indiana, a tractor-trailer was overturned by strong crosswinds in Valparaiso, killing the 34-year-old driver, Jagbir Singh, from Ontario, Canada. Additionally, a warehouse in Elkhart was destroyed, and storm damage was reported in several Tennessee counties, including Maury and Humphreys counties.
The storms left over 400,000 households without power across the affected regions. Crews from DTE Energy and other utility companies worked to restore service.
